If you're a self-employed hairdresser, one of the biggest decisions is whether to keep renting a chair or open your own salon. A lot of people frame it as the next step, but the real question is what kind of business and life you actually want.\n\nOpening a salon can bring more control, a stronger brand, and more long-term upside. It can also bring rent, wages, stock, bills, pressure, and a business that never leaves your head. Before you take that step, it helps to compare freedom, risk, earnings, and stress honestly.\n\nBecause salon ownership is not just more money, more freedom, more control. Sometimes it's less freedom, more pressure, and a business that never leaves your head. In my book I talk about working every holiday, thinking about the salon day and night, and missing time with family because the business always needed something. That part gets ignored when people make salon ownership sound like the next level.\n\nLook, if you're a strong professional, you can do very well without owning the whole thing. Any good salon will value you, pay you properly, and you can still build a solid life without carrying the rent, wages, stock, bills, and stress on your back. Obviously, owning can build something bigger. But bigger is not always better for the person living it.\n\nThe truth is, some people want a brand with their name on the door. Some people want peace. Neither one is wrong. Simply put, if you open a salon because you think that's what success is supposed to look like, you might end up building a life you don't even like.\n\nWhat matters more to you right now — control of the business, or control of your own time?\n\nThe way I'd actually fix this thinking is in my book.\n\nhttps://www.salonbusinesshub.com/book\n\n[INSTAGRAM:https://www.instagram.com/p/DYATydcAhiq/]
